While disaster recovery is the process of getting services back online after a failure or outage (these could be caused by anything from a natural disaster to a cyber attack), resilience aims to avoid incidents and disasters altogether.

While resilience seems preferable, it’s impossible to prepare perfectly for every scenario, so there will always be a need for fast and effective disaster recovery. That said, traditional methods of preparing for and executing a disaster recovery event are increasingly becoming inadequate in the face of increased risk and complexity.
